PRESENTATION ON “ASAN” PUBLIC SERVICES AND VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH Seminar for youth and university students

11406861_306997962758006_5062249596920346857_nTransparency Azerbaijan, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), organized a seminar in Barda on the topic of “’ASAN’ public services and volunteering opportunities for youth”.The seminar was the latest in a series within the Azerbaijan Partnership for Transparency (APT) project designed to facilitate enlightenment among youth with the aim of increasing transparency and accountability of government. The seminar was held at the Barda service center of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 10.00 to 13.00 on June 17, 2015.

The aim of the seminar is to introduce the public services provided by “ASAN” Service Centers and volunteering opportunities in these centers to the youth and citizens from vulnerable social groups in Barda and surrounding regions. Turgut Mustafazade, the head of Barda “ASAN service” center under State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Saray Mailzade, officer for work with volunteers at the center participated as the main speakers in the event. Bakhtiyar Aslanov, project coordinator of APT opened the seminar thanking the host of the event Barda ASAN service center and participants of the event, briefing them about APT project. Then Mahammad Muradov, project coordinator at Transparency Azerbaijan, briefly discussed the positive impact of ASAN service centers on the overall improvement of service delivery by different state agencies.

In the seminar attended by youth, Turgut Mustafazade informed the participants about implementation mechanisms of ASAN service centers’ services to the citizens in transparency and efficient work environment and the criteria and the standards underpinning the quality of these services. Saray Mailzade discussed potential contribution of volunteering opportunities at ASAN service centers toward cultivating work experience and multi-faceted practical skills of youth that would be necessary to their future career.

The subsequent part of the event was organized in an interactive format, in which Turgut Mustafazade responded to the questions from youth about projected activities to increase transparency of work at ASAN service centers. Participants stressed the importance of implementing innovative initiatives to raise transparency in this area and to improve efficiency of public services at ASAN service centers.

At the end of the seminar, participants were given a walking tour with Turgut Mustafazde and other employees in Barda ASAN service centers and hands-on understanding of the services there.
