Legal aid and outreach events conducted in Ganja and surrounding regions
Posted by: admin | Posted on: Август 23, 2016“Transparency Azerbaijan” Anti-corruption Public Association, the local chapter of “Transparency International”, organized 12 legal aid sessions and public outreach events through August 2016 in Ganja and its surrounding regions within the framework of Azerbaijan Partnership for Transparency Project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of the events was to foster a culture that is generally law-abiding, including through legal literacy, public awareness, constituency building, and citizen engagement in legal processes.
About 281 participants benefited from the legal aid and educational sessions delivered by Sevinj Suleymanli, APT lawyer of TA Ganja office in various regionsç including Goygol, its Ashigli, Khaqani, Balchili villages, Shamkir region Kur district, as well as its Mahmudlu, Tezekend, Serkar, Hajialili villages and Samukh region Lek village. The audience was informed about APT Project and free legal aid available at TA offices across the country. Then APT lawyers gave the participants information about corruption, it`s forms and reasons, legal tools to tackle it in their use of public services.
A group of participants also asked legal questions about issues and problems in such areas as disability status, pensions, targeted social aid, labor rights, bank issues, free medical aid, aliment issues, problems of taking child abroad, inheritance rights, education rights, social insurance, gas supply, etc.
The APT lawyer of TA Ganja office responded to the questions from the audience on allegations of corruption. At the end of the events participants were handed out booklets on Extract from the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic, Law on Citizens’ appeals, Anti-Corruption Law, as well as the flyers containing information on legal services TA provides.
